Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Celebrates his Birthday! 

On May 2^nd 1972, baby Dwayne was born to parents Ata and Rocky Johnson. Both his father and his grandfather had been professional wrestlers, so it was likely no surprise when Dwayne became the third generation of Johnsons to take to the ring. He joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF now WWE) in 1996 with the name Rocky Maivia, which was an amalgamation of both his father’s and grandfather’s wrestling nicknames. He was never keen on the name, but the heads of the organisation wanted to make the most of his unique status as a third generation wrestler. Eventually he would disassociate himself from this nickname, referring to himself as simply “The Rock”.

Over the next few years his fame and popularity grew and The Rock became a household name. His acting career also began in 1996 when he worked on a weekly WWF show. He then took a role playing his own father in an episode of That 70s Show and he even starred in Star Trek: Voyager as an alien wrestler in a fight with Seven of Nine. However his first major role was in The Mummy Returns and after the success of that film his acting career really took off and pretty much overtook his wrestling fame.

• For his role in The Mummy Returns he was paid $5.5 million. This earned him a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the highest paid lead actor in a debut film.
• He’s also in the Guinness Book of Records for taking the most selfies in 3 minutes. (105).
• His stunt double in many of his films is Tanoai Reed who is actually his cousin.
• He is a massive Elvis Presley fan and owns a large collection of Elvis memorabilia.
• His autobiography made the The New York Times Best Seller list.
