What on earth did we do with our time? It’s hard to imagine now. The highlight of the week would be watching our favourite TV shows. Perhaps it was Taggart or That’s Life. You’d all have to gather around the telly at just the right time, and rush to the toilet or to put the kettle on in the advert break as there was no way to pause it. These days we’re spoilt for entertainment. There’s just so many different things to do, everyone has their own favourites and so everyone tends to be on their own, in their own little world of fun. While you’re watching a box set on Netflix, the kids are shooting zombies and your other half is hooked on Facebook. While it’s pretty fantastic in some ways, wouldn’t it be nice to go back to those days for a little while, the days when families actually spent time together? Talking, going for a walk in the woods, playing board games? Well today is National Scrabble Day and what better way to get together and have some fun than with a game of Scrabble? Do your kids even know what Scrabble is? Why not get a set, ban mobile phones from the room and get competitive? Scrabble is certainly educational. Teach the kids some real words when all they do is write in text speak abbreviations. It’s also strangely addictive. They may turn their noses up at the idea, but once they get into it, this could become a regular activity for you all. Scrabble was invented back in 1938. Since then the game has sold over 150 million sets! Half of British homes have a Scrabble set in them, so hunt yours out for National Scrabble Day, don’t let it linger in the loft, get playing! Don’t forget to have a dictionary at hand though, or you’ll end up having arguments over whether or not a particular word actually exists! The perfect plate if you love board games Once you start playing board games again, you’ll soon realise how much fun they really were. You may want to celebrate the joy of the humble board game when you’re next choosing your new private plate, so how about GAM 3S? That plate is available on our website right now. You could also go for GAM 33R which would be great if you love board games, but if you still think your Xbox wins out over a game of Scrabble, well it works well for you too!
