Whether you’re of the older generation, or you’re a young person, today is all about spending time with people, taking the time to learn more about them, about their life, perhaps discovering that you have more in common than you might think! The older generation can teach you a lot When you take the time to listen, older people can have some fascinating stories to tell. It’s easy to forget that they were young once, they’ve had a whole life of experiences and they’ve certainly learnt a lot over the years. There’s something intriguing about hearing tales of your own origins, your own family history. Those stories are precious and you can in turn pass them down to your own children. The younger generation also have their uses! It’s easy when you’re older to dismiss the young, what on earth would you have in common with them? The world has changed a lot, being a young person now is easier in many ways, but life is far less simple. Everyone has their own troubles and being an ear to listen for younger people can be incredibly helpful. In return, if you ever need to know anything about modern technology, it’s the youngest people you know that you should turn to! Make an effort on Grandparents Day Today is the day to call your grandparents, send them a card or visit them. Just a reminder that even though you have your own busy life now, you still love them and care about them. It doesn’t even have to be your own grandparents, there has no doubt been plenty of influential older people in your life so let them know you’re grateful for everything they’ve done for you. Taking a few minutes to chat with an older person in your community can seem like such a trivial thing, but it can make a world of difference to someone who lives alone.
