HomeRegistrationsWe’re All Shook Up for Elvis’ Birthday! Jayne Henry January 8, 2018 Registrations The King of Rock and Roll was born on January 8th 1935 in Mississippi. If there was ever a singer who will never be forgotten then it’s Elvis! The birth of Elvis was bitter sweet. Of course his parents would have adored the little baby Elvis, but he was actually a twin. His twin brother was stillborn. Elvis spent his life trying to find the location of his brother’s grave but it was never found as the location was never recorded. Elvis started singing as a young boy. He had a real talent for it, but he also had a problem with being very shy! Something he certainly learnt to overcome in later years, going on to be one of the biggest selling artists of all time, as well as an accomplished actor. Some fascinating facts about Elvis We all know Elvis for his jet black hair, but it was actually dyed. His natural colour was brown. He only bought his first guitar because his mum wouldn’t let him have a rifle. He was once banned from shaking his body in his concert because it was thought to be too provocative. Instead, he shook his finger, in protest! Elvis didn’t name his famous Graceland home himself, it was named after the daughter of the previous owner. He recorded more than 600 songs but he didn’t actually write any of them himself. Elvis had a pet turkey called Bow Tie and a chimp called Scatter. He was a black belt in karate. Elvis’ flamboyant outfits were inspired by Liberace. Looking for an Elvis personalised plate? We’ve got the perfect plate for any Elvis fan… ELV 15X – isn’t that amazing?
