HomePersonalised Number PlatesAre the Irish more superstitious than the English? Jayne Henry March 30, 2013 Personalised Number Plates, Registration Industry Here in England we’ve got the new 13 plate. Unlucky for some perhaps, but if you buy a new car this year, you’ll have no choice but to take a 13 plate. Of course it’s not really much of an issue; if you are superstitious and really don’t want the number 13 on your number plate, then you can just buy yourself a personalised number plate and replace it. You can get a plate from as little as £50 and the process doesn’t take long, so you’ll soon be displaying these new plates on your car and you’ll be rid of the dreaded 13! However in Ireland, perhaps they’re a more superstitious nation, as the government listened to the concerns of potential car buyers in 2013 and realised that demand for change of the ‘unlucky’ 13 plate was widespread. So much so that they actually did something about it. If you buy a new car in Ireland this year, your plate won’t have 13 on it, but instead the number will be 131. Would that make you happier? Do you wish they had done something similar to this in England too? Photo credit: *saxon* / Foter.com / CC BY
