Travelling with children

Children get bored easily on long car journeys. They may get on your nerves, but more importantly, they may distract you while driving and that can be very dangerous, especially in adverse winter weather conditions. Make sure your children are well provided for on the journey and you’ll be keeping them happy and keeping you all safe.

In-car DVD players are great for keeping the kids entertained, but of course this is quite a costly addition to your car, however you travel long distances with your children regularly, it’s definitely something worth considering. You can also get organiser bags that hang on the back of the front seats for them to keep their toys in. Fill this with puzzle books, reading books, toys and travel games and they can keep themselves occupied without having to ask you for things. Make sure they have a drink and snacks ready prepared too.

The old games can be the best, so do some research online for simple games you can play in the car. The I-Spy range of books you may remember from your own childhood still go down a treat and there are special books for car journey with plenty of items for your kids to look out for and mark off when they have spotted them, from a cow to a pylon, each item spotted gets them more points.

Don’t forget to look out for the Eddie Stobart trucks. Each one has a different name written on the side. Get them to write down each name they spot and they can add to their list on every journey you take.
