HomeMotoring UKMotorway Service Mark-Ups Jayne Henry February 16, 2011 Motoring UK A bottle of water in Britain’s motorway services, can cost more than at Harvey Nichols‼ Petrol can cost you more than £77 more per year for petrol. Research by What Car, found that motorway services are among the most expensive places to shop in the UK. One WH Smith outlet charged a 91% mark up over its high street shops on a 750ml bottle of water. WH Smith certainly wasn’t the only offender, M & S charges inflated prices in motorway shops as well. They increased a bottle of water by 25% and a sandwich by 16%. Burger King also charges 12% more for their food. Food isn’t the only commodities that have increased prices, FUEL is also more expensive. Drivers tend to pay an average of 5.2% more for unleaded petrol and 3.4% more for diesel. So before you attempt a journey on the Motorway, make sure you have enough fuel and bring a pack lunch!
