The foreign registered vehicles which are flown in from the Middle East are avoiding these fines as their vehicles are not registered in the DVLA Swansea. The vehicles in question are not your arrange Ford Focuss, or BMW’s they are mainly Bugattis, Lamborghinis and Ferraris who continue to park illegally on yellow lines, bus lanes and even residents’ bay. Unfortunately over 80% of these fines will remain unpaid as there is no way for the officials to pursue the owners in their native countries. However the London council have now began to name and shame the offenders in the hope of reclaiming back nearly £4 million in unpaid fines. Below are some of the offenders: £300,000 Rolls-Royce Phantom, with registration 3 HVB, owes £2,000 on 18 unpaid tickets £200,000 Lamborghini Murcielago, with registration E 477, owes £2,000 on 19 unpaid tickets £1.2 million Bugatti Veyron, with registration 444, owes £120 fine BMW X6, with registration 111 owes £3,500 on unpaid fines £50,000 Humvee, with registration U19 HPS, owes £1,100 unpaid fines In the last three years offenders have failed to settle a total of 36,332 penalty notices issued in Westminster, leaving the council £3,776,490 out of pocket. Councillors are calling for a change in the law to allow foreign vehicle owners to be traced. Westminster said that foreign drivers should “be sent a clear message that this blatant disregard of the law will not be tolerated”.
