The scheme began with a ‘Nik Ur Reg’ event held at the Tesco carpark in Seven Kings where officers were on hand to install tamper proof screws to vehicles. The service will also be available at the following locations – Goodmayes Retail Park on Saturday May 29 and Tesco Seven Kings on Wednesday June 23 and Wednesday July 21. Other venues and dates are set to be announced. A police spokeswoman said: “The theft of number plates is something that we are keen to reduce. “The “Nik Ur Reg” service is free and the work takes approx five or ten minutes to complete. “The teams are also actively seeking out vehicles left displaying valuables and offering advice accordingly. “Motorists are encouraged to take this measure to reduce the chance of becoming a victim of crime. “By contacting their local Safer Neighbourhood Team they can obtain details of how to participate. “Contact details are available from the Redbridge borough Police. The teams welcome any information which may assist.”
